#MUSIC: Paradigm Shift by Doug Kazé @doug_kaze #ParadigmShift #DougKazé

Doug Kazé is a singer-songwriter and guitarist from Jos, Plateau State of Nigeria. He started trying to create songs before secondary school age. His music, which he refers to as “Afro-Soul” – an experimentation with diverse sounds and influences towards a soulful, folky African sound – is influenced by different artists such as Tracy Chapman, Ibrodan Yohana, Ali Farka Toure, Boubacar Traore, Daps, Kirk Franklin, and different genres like 90s hip-hop, soul/R&B, modern rock and, importantly, local folk music. Doug works to create an art that provides thought-provoking lyrics that address social issues and promote love and peace in society. Therefore, his songs confront issues like human trafficking, corruption, homelessness, violence and promote love.

In 2004, Doug Kazé founded a rock-based band, Trybe of the Sealed, with whom he served as lead vocalist and guitarist. The band performed at different locations for a period of ten years and made recordings which have been quite successful at the local level. Simultaneously he was involved in local church music leadership. In 2014, he recorded a self-titled album, which was also a local success. To support the album, Doug held a local unplugged tour at various intimate locations. He has also performed in South Africa, including one in Cape Town in October 2015 in partnership with the Media Campaign Against Human Trafficking (MeCaHT) – an organization committed to fighting human trafficking in Africa.

Doug hopes to explore and transcend creative and cultural borders and produce more music of hope and love for humanity. His new album, Paradigm Shift, was released late last year.
