Joyce Unegbu chasing Girl-Child cause with book ‘Boys for Sale’
‘Boys for Sale’, which is the second book to be published by Joyce Unegbu who has been known for her trade mark angelic voice on Orient FM [Imo Broadcasting Corporation], where she anchors the programmes ‘The Angel Woman’ and ‘People just like you’, tells the story of a woman who made it through the stigmas of not having a male child.
“It is a compassionate and compelling tale of a woman’s struggle to keep her home and secure her happiness in an environment that is intolerant of an all-female offspring”, she wrote.
With its public presentation and launching billed for Tuesday, December 8, 2015 at Assumpta Pastoral Centre, 160 Wetheral Road, Owerri, Imo State by 10:00 am, the book has been tipped as a masterpiece that will inspire women to do more as well as go a long way in changing the stigmatization of mothers with all-female offspring.
‘Boys for Sale’ has also been described as a great story which does not only go a long way in touching hearts and fighting for the Girl-Child’s cause, but one that will also educate, inspire and entertain, owing to the experience of the author, who had previously displayed her authority on the subject via poetry and short stories.

#LetterToSisters: Managing friends’ and exes’ hookups

Hell no! Letting your friend date an ex is more like watching your friends reach the highest level on a game you couldn’t play and on the other hand where they can’t handle it, you feel like they are damaging everything you have built.
The truth is the truth and no matter how you see it, every time you and your friends hang out with your boyfriend, just know that one of them could be the next girl when your reign ends. This always happens when you are the one who called the relationship off.
While you and your friends played all your games, there is always one that is close to your character and if they are better, congratulations because she might be your successor. There is no guilt in the heart of a guy in making this move, it is only for the girls to deal with it and it most cases, it is the ink that draws a battle line between good friends.
What is even an ex?
An ex is simply someone you no longer need in your life unless someone is still getting pension. Relationships are not like civil service where one is connected to the job till death, it ends when it ends and this is one thing ladies should see.
Exes are usually on the trash can. Unless he is a nice guy, you can then keep him in the fridge, hoping to use him someday. Few people move on after a relationship, others hang on somehow. You want to know who he is dating, if she is better than you and so on.
Who needs a friend?
Exes often make good friends but this is not about that type of friends. Your friends give you cover in relationships, they lie for you and defend you. They also enjoy with you and celebrate with you. They console you in time of heartbreaks and they advise you when you want to take funny steps.
That will be for people with good friends. Just few people operate in that zone. The rest are a bunch of girls claiming to be friends but are just competitors in the ‘men-market’.
We all needs friends, someone who will always know where we are and all of it. And whether we like it or not, we need someone who might be succeeding us in our relationships. To bad.
Do we hook them up?
I know there are people who might have done it, but I would just say that nobody does that. No one in their right senses would hook up an ex with her friend. These two people just hook up on their own.
It usually starts for your good and when that is achieved, the motive shifts to them and please don’t hate her because she is just another girl in love.
When you dump a guy who can call your friends, he calls the best of them because you no longer takes his calls. He tells her about all the good times you shared with millions of reasons why you are not supposed to walk out on him. With time his love turns to hatred and even when he cannot help it, there is only one person to speak for you and this would be that trusted friend of yours.
She calms your ex down especially the silly guys who are planning on hurting you. She becomes his comforter and friends and that is the beginning of another love story.
You will never know what this friend is going through because even though she started falling for this guy in sincerity or out of pity, she still tries to fight for your interest each time your name is mentioned.
While she is busy fighting for you, you usually have one sentence for the guy which is, ‘forget that guy’
When you can’t forget him
There comes that moment when you see that your so called trusted friend is always answering his calls and chatting with him, what are you supposed to do?
Be happy for her like you have never met the guy that is making her happy or hate her for betraying you.
What happened to all the ‘forget that guy’ you said? What happened to your present relationship? Or do you want to pack everything along?
This is just a crucial time in every friendship because you know that titles have switched and you are now the friend while she is the girlfriend. You imagine him calling you to ask if she is around. It really hurts but makes no sense, so live with it.
I think our friends and exes are all independent people. Every option is open for them to choose from as long as they are not stepping on your toes.
To me, this is simply being selfish. Blocking people from getting to each other when you neither have nothing to gain or lose but just your ‘worthless’ ego to protect.
Sisters you can do better and live freer when we let people who you no longer have in your hearts fly freely. That is the true definition of moving on and maturity.

The Man We Are: Paying for younger yesterdays

Yesterday? Does it matter? So will many say especially the male folks. Women have their bits of the sins of yesterdays but this is not about them, but mostly against them.
Some men can mostly brag that they have never wronged a woman in their younger years, while others will only have the sin of not being able to count the number of ladies they have wronged in the name of using and dumping.
As if that is the only sin in the youthful days of a man, but it isn’t. The major sins of every young man are decisions and indecisions. You either decide to do the wrong thing or nurse delays in choosing to do the right things.
Life has side effects. You either live or die. Everything has side effects even starving. As a young person of about 18 years, we often feel wild and free, tasting and seeing everything we can reach, but somewhere in another part of the world, our mates are dying, others are getting married, some are unveiling life changing inventions and others are working out means to make money from our lousiness.
Let’s look at the younger days as when we have nothing to lose; when we are free to try this and that to see where our passions will drive us to. Because in our teens, most of us are usually students, we have time to think, create and invent but we don’t do these things. We rather invent lines to woo girls; party concepts that will beat the one of the previous week and in these things we do, time is passing; irreplaceable time.
And the women
It’s okay if we see ourselves as highly electronegative. It’s okay if we have an irresistible affinity for girls but the, it will be better if we have high affinity for success.
With every tick on the clock, we hear a sound that will never come again and even though the next tick is similar to that, but their times will never be the same.
Taking on girls as if you will be given an award afterwards is always a waste of time. Maybe you are working towards a project that will make you lose count of the number of women you have slept with at the age of 25. The truth still remains that someday, it will all come back to us.
Some people cheat today because they cannot stick to a woman. This is just a habit they formed at a tender age; maybe before they clocked 20. It is always good to taste everything because you are free to, but when you remember Adam and Eve, you will understand that even in the midst of plenty, there is always something you are not permitted to eat. Guys it is women for us.
Decisions and indecisions
Have you ever heard of someone who was described as the most brilliant in the class but at the age of 50, he has nothing to show for it. He is probably the village drunkard you see in every burial and traditional wedding ceremony.
I don’t want to throw blames because we will say that success comes from God, but then, we still have our moves to make.
If Abraham had gone the other direction, maybe God would have used someone else to raise Israel and the story would be very different from what we have today. Even when God wants to save a man, he leaves him at the mercy of himself. That is the point when you choose what to do.
There are people lying in their bedrooms today with ideas that could have changed the world. Others are sadly in their graves with it because they were too afraid to let their lights shine.
Every idea is worth every try we make and one thing certain is that a million dollar idea in 2015 might be a trash idea in 2030. And that will be when you will be somewhere, wondering why you have not unleashed them to them world.
By then, you must have tasted failure and will come to understand that it is not too bad. You will understand that failure is the flavor of success and wish that could have done better.
How we pay
A meme says: “when you look back to see the type of girls you have spent your money on instead of sending them home to your mother, you will know that witchcraft is real”. This is simply how we pay for the mistakes of the younger years.
We spend a lot of time regretting things we did and things we should have done. In most cases we forget there is still another page in the life we still have to live and instead of concentrating on the future which could still be bright, we try to go back to past to make changes.
This is a waste of time my brother. See it as a football match, when you lose it, you can only win in the next game. Just wait for it, plan for it and work to win it.
We must learn to beat time, especially in our younger years, it is the man we are.
